- Dates: 17 January 2012
- Time: 17.00 to 18.30
- Location: Committee Room 8, House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA
This event will celebrate the launch of a report by the Pathways of Women's Empowerment research programme, Empowerment: A journey not a destination
Pathways of Women's Empowerment is an international research and communications programme that was established in 2006 with DFID funding. Pathways links academics with activists and practitioners to find out what works to enhance women’s empowerment. The report is a synthesis of the outcomes of more than fifty research projects undertaken over the last five years in Latin America, the Middle East, South Asia and West Africa.
The meeting will provide a timely opportunity to share some of the findings and recommendations from the report and examine how they can be used to underpin current development policy and practice aimed at transforming the lives of women and girls.
Confirmed speakers include:
- Baroness Kinnock, Opposition Spokesperson for International Development (Chair)
- Professor Takyiwaa Manuh, University of Ghana
- Dr Hania Sholkamy, Social Research Centre, American University in Cairo
- Professor Cecilia Sardenberg, Nucleus for Interdisciplinary Women's Studies, Federal University of Bahia in Brazil
