What is the Alumni Association?
The Alumni Association exists to support and help nuture the IDS Alumni professional development network.
Each year, and in whatever position they hold, IDS Alumni becomes ever more influential. IDS is committed to assisting the network to become more useful and operational, and to facilitate contact between Alumni and between Alumni and IDS. That is the over-arching aim of the Alumni Association.
The Alumni Association network exists so that:
- Alumni can communicate more easily with each other
- Alumni can form specialist groups through which to exchange and advance their thinking on their particular specialist subjects, with additional new thinking contributed by IDS
- IDS can disseminate new thinking through the Alumni on the different areas of development
- Alumni can be kept up to date on both the evolution of IDS and more importantly on the teaching programme, in such a way that they can better promote it to potential students
- IDS has a more useful contact with development professionals, some of whom are retained on a consultancy basis for further work with the Institute
- Alumni, knowing the work of IDS, are able to help IDS to provide targeted assistance in their countries
- Alumni can form National Chapters of the IDS Alumni, committed to advancing the causes of development in their countries and ensuring a more structured relationship with IDS, particularly in relation to the ways in which the Institute might better support development efforts in the country.
We need the help, enthusiasm and participation of all Alumni. The network is yours and you share with us the challenge of making it work.
What can the Alumni Association do for you?
The Association provides ongoing support to Alumni through their career. As IDS moves more towards distance learning and to working with centres of higher education in the less developed world on the provision of post-graduate courses, so new Alumni will increasingly see IDS as a learning, research and information facility. This forges alliances through network linkages with the Institute and other Alumni. The Alumni network is a force for development, important in providing access to information and services that would be more difficult to find elsewhere.
If we don't already have your contact details please complete this IDS Alumni Contact Details Form form and return to the IDS Alumni Office. This will also give you access to the website database utilised by over 350 alumni and IDS contacts.
