Livelihoods and Land Reform
Land reform is an essential component of efforts to reduce poverty and inequality. Despite important empirical studies, there has to date been no systematic assessment of the poverty reduction and livelihood impacts of land reform in southern Africa. IDS work, in collaboration with southern African partners, aims to fill this important data gap, developing appropriate and replicable methodologies for such a livelihood-based assessment.
An IDS three-year research programme based in Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe explored land as one of the key themes of the exploration of policies and institutions for sustainable livelihoods in southern Africa.
