Innovation and Value Chains

The IDS Globalisation Team, collaborating with networked research groups, has pioneered research into a particular form of global production networks, the Global Value Chain. This is one way in which the incomes of the poor can be enhanced is through their participation in global production networks.

IDS research on value chains has grown rapidly in recent years, and covers a range of related themes. These include:

  • Conceptual studies
  • Empirical studies (see projects listed below)
  • Research exploring the link between global value chains and local industrial clusters
  • Value chains, gender and employment
