ALINe seminar: Evaluating participatory programmes using randomised controlled trials: methods and challenges
- Dates: 8 September 2010
- Time: 13.00 - 14.30
- Location: IDS room 221
Speaker: Edoardo Masset, IDS Research Fellow
This seminar will outline a strategy for the impact evaluation of a participatory monitoring programme in the Mindanao region of the Philippines. Farm Field Schools in Mindanao employ participatory monitoring methods in order to improve performance of agricultural extension programmes. Our aim is assessing the success of these monitoring methods using an RCT (randomised controlled trial). The seminar will also provide some background to RCT methodology and will review other recent RCT evaluations of participatory programmes conducted by J-Pal Poverty Lab, and will illustrate the difference with our approach. One of our objectives is the incorporation of participatory methods into the evaluation methodology in order to produce an assessment which is based on the best the qualitative and quantitative approaches can offer. Anybody interested in impact evaluation and/or participation is invited to provide suggestions on how this study can be improved.
All welcome.
