Biography
Joanna's key areas of expertise are citizenship, gender, and rights-based approaches, developed through participatory research and evaluation experience. For the past three years, she has been the research manager for the Citizenship Development Research Centre, and has continued to develop her facilitation and coordination skills to support the network. She has completed extensive research on urban poverty and policy, including in-depth analysis on patterns of social exclusion in low-income communities in Latin America. Through this work, she has also developed a series of innovative communications initiatives. Her current research is focusing on citizenship, participation, and violence in Rio de Janeiro, and on participatory communication for social change.
