GLOBAL KNOWLEDGE FOR GLOBAL CHANGE

Brazil Indigenous Health System

IDS is leading the consortium that has been asked to develop proposals for a major overhaul of the health services serving indigenous peoples in Brazil. The consortium's tasks include carrying out a situation analysis of the indigenous health subsystem of the Brazilian national health service, preparing revised targets and models for health care provision, system organisation, management, financing and monitoring & evaluation and preparing a workplan for their implementation. In addition to desk research and policy advisory work, the project has included case studies of five Indigenous Health Districts and a series of regional and national workshops involving over 400 indigenous health service users, policymakers, managers and health staff.
