Linking technological change in health, agriculture and environment to poverty reduction and social justice.

Environment and PRSPs

This research project was initiated and conceptualised in the framework of the Poverty Environment Partnership (PEP), an informal network of around 30-donor and non-governmental organisations that works on strengthening the nexus between poverty reduction and environmental protection in development cooperation. Within the PEP, the Canadian International Development Agency, the Department for International Development (UK) and the German Technical Cooperation Agency funded and managed the research process. The research was conducted by the Institute of Development Studies, in collaboration with national and international consultants.

A series of reports were produced presenting the findings from four country case studies, in Ghana, Honduras, Vietnam and Uganda, and background research on the integration of environmental considerations into Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSPs). The papers aim to contribute to the debate on pro-poor development and environmental issues in order to improve poor people’s livelihoods and to contribute towards the sustainable use of natural resources while also informing aid relationships promoted by the PRSP approach.
