MK4D
Mobilising Knowledge for Development (MK4D): a DFID-funded programme
MK4D is a co-ordinated package of work from IDS's most prominent knowledge sharing activities, funded by DFID to reduce global poverty and injustice by supporting more informed decision making by those in a position to influence change.
Services supported by MK4D are:
The British Library for Development Studies (BLDS)
Europe's largest research collection on economic and social change in developing countries. BLDS operates a number of services specifically designed to provide remote users with access to over one million research materials.
A specialist service supporting gender mainstreaming efforts by bridging the gaps between theory, policy and practice with accessible gender information, including Cutting Edge Packs.
A broad-based gateway to development information, providing easy access by web and email to a wide range of high quality online resources. The new Eldis Community service uses social networking tools to support engagement with users and networking between them.
A series of online and print briefings which provide a thematic overview of recent policy-relevant research findings on international development.
A service facilitating knowledge sharing and networking to enable the practical implementation of sustainable livelihoods approaches as a tool for poverty reduction.
Impact and Learning Team (formally the Strategic and Learning Initiative - SLI)
MK4D also supports the ILT whose purpose is to build understanding about the role information, especially research-based information, plays in stimulating positive social change and to help to apply that understanding in practical ways to strengthen knowledge, information and communication programmes, at IDS and across the sector.
