The AfricaAdapt Climate Change Symposium 2011 is an unprecedented gathering of over 120 African and Africa-based researchers, NGOs, community activists, donors and government officials. African-led adaptation to climate change

AfricaAdapt network coordinator Moussa Na Abou Mamouda explains: "An open space for innovative sessions will encourage creative new exchanges between African research, practitioner and policy communities."

Moussa adds: "We'll look at evolving approaches, tools, methods and philosophies linking climate change and sustainable development. Through lesson-sharing, debate and interactive sessions, we want to help set the agenda for African-led adaptation."

Keynote speakers and panellists are leaders in African policy, research and media. They include:

  • Dr. Youba Sokona from the African Climate Policy Centre and IPCC working group
  • Patrick Luganda, chairman of the Network of Climate Journalists of the Greater Horn of Africa
  • Dr. Fatima Denton from Climate Change Adaptation in Africa, IDRC
