IDS takes on the 10:10 Challenge

10:10 Launch19 April 2010

Climate change is already affecting the world's poorest and most vulnerable people, who often lack the robust systems and capacity needed to cope. The IDS Climate Change and Development Centre (CCDC) is building global capacity to meet the challenges caused by climate change through pioneering research and innovative knowledge partnerships. IDS is also working hard to reduce our own carbon emissions and as part these efforts we have signed up to 10:10, the national campaign to reduce carbon emissions by 10 per cent in 2010.

To mark our involvement in the campaign, 19-23 April is IDS Green Week. We are launching a range of activities to raise awareness of the 10:10 campaign and other environmental issues, from reducing electricity consumption to recycling. Events include a panel discussion on Tuesday lunchtime about 10:10 and its relevance to IDS and institutions like us and a Sussex Development Lecture by Caroline Lucas, Green Party MEP on Thursday evening.

IDS Director Lawrence Haddad said, ‘The 10:10 campaign is an excellent way to highlight the issue of climate change and the commitment of organisations and individuals alike to tackling climate change. IDS involvement reflects our commitment to living our values'.
