Each month we speak to two people working on development issues across the world, finding out a bit about their work and asking them 'What do you think is the big question that Development Studies needs to answer?'

Following the UK elections this May politicians and civil servants will be considering new directions across government policy. But to what extent will any new policies be informed by solid research evidence?

• Nick Perkins, IDS Head of Communication and co-author of the IDS Working Paper 'Making Science of Influencing: Assessing the Impact of Development Research' on how you can measure influence.
• Margaret Catley-Carlson, Chair of the Executive Board of the Global Crop Diversity Trust at CGIAR and former Assistant Secretary General in the United Nations on what researchers can do to get their research into new policy directions?
