Welcome to the new improved IDS website
7 September 2010
Welcome to the new IDS website. With your feedback and suggestions collected from the recent survey questionnaire, we've given the website and homepage a new cleaner design and added some new functionality.
Improved navigation
Below the new banner graphic is the top line navigation where we've relocated the Quick Links which include the Intranet/Webmail, Contact us and Site map links. This is part of the new pull-down menu system that you can see deeper pages and content within the website. The Browse by Subject listing has been replaced by a similar menu system.
New Bookshop and Knowledge Services' homepages
These two pages have been vastly improved in design allowing content to be promoted and change more often. Both pages have a 'slider' that you can interact with showing off content we think you'll enjoy or find useful.
If you find some of our content interesting and want to share it with a colleague then the buttons situated at the top right of the page will help. For those using social media, a Twitter and Facebook button has been added for instant sharing. Next a button for sharing via email which can interact with your preferred account be in Google, Yahoo or another provider. Finally, the general, green-coloured icon allows you to use all kinds or web 2.0 applications such as Delicious, Digg, Blogger and more.
Improved Multimedia
We've recently added Mixcloud to our multimedia services which presents our audio recordings and podcasts in a brand new way. These recordings can be shared by Twitter and Facebook but also embedded into your own blog or website. Other changes to the website will be minimal at first but as new content is created, multimedia will be easier to find and interact with instead of being hidden away.
Future surveys
Over the next few weeks we'll be surveying visitors about their recent web experience. The new application we'll be using, 4Q is a short, non-intrusive questionnaire.
Feedback and Comments
We hope you find these new enhancements to your benefit. If you have any feedback, please email the Web Editor, Robin Coleman with your comments.
