Aid for AIDS: How do community groups negotiate the new financial architecture?

Members of the Ulusi Youth Group, which is supported by ActionAid, practice on the shore of Lake Victoria. Ulusi works within the community, raising awareness on social issues such as HIV/Aids, early pregnancies, school drop outs, Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) and domestic violence. They perform dances and dramas, using traditional techniques to communicate contemporary issues.

IDS researchers are launching a new project that aims to plug the knowledge gap on how community groups negotiate global health initiatives to strengthen health systems for AIDS.

The costs of ignoring the seasonal dimensions of poverty are enormous. Yet seasonality is rarely reflected in policy on agricultural investment and social protection. IDS is hosting an international conference that seeks to change this.
