Conflict

Almost one third of the world's population lives in conflict-affected low-income countries. Yet little is known about the effects of conflict on household welfare, behaviour and poverty. The Vulnerability and Poverty Reduction team has a programme of work analysing violent conflict at the micro level.

The Households in Conflict Network (HiCN), of which IDS is a partner, brings together researchers interested in the micro-economic and econometric analysis of the relationship between violent conflict and household behaviour. An associated project: A Micro Level Analysis of Violent Conflict, or MICROCON, is a five-year, European Commission funded project, taking a micro level, multidisciplinary approach to studying the conflict cycle.

Addressing and Mitigating Violence - This programme will generate practical policy options for states and citizens so they can better address and mitigate violence in both rural and urban settings. (Ongoing)
