STEPS Centre Summer School on Pathways to Sustainability
5 December 2011
Applications are invited now for a two-week Summer School on Pathways to Sustainability, to be held over two weeks next May at IDS. Led by researchers from the IDS-based STEPS Centre, the school will draw on their work on the interactions of social, technological and environmental systems.
Applications are invited from highly-motivated doctoral and postdoctoral researchers or those with equivalent experience, whose work relates to development studies, science and technology studies, innovation and policy studies, and agricultural, health, water or energy issues. There will also be opportunities for a few participants to stay on for a further two weeks of guided independent study and writing.
The course will cover topics including the politics of sustainability, knowledge and power, understanding uncertainty and risk, the global governance of science and technology, and livelihoods, institutions and development.
The sessions will be run by STEPS Centre directors Ian Scoones, Melissa Leach and Andy Stirling, and other STEPS Centre research fellows.
Numbers are limited, so recruitment will be by refereed selection. Successful applicants will pay no fees. But participants must cover their own travel and accommodation.
