Carol Smithyes - Communications Officer

As a Communications Officer I help create an environment that enables IDS to position itself as a trusted source of expertise on development, to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences and to ensure our profile reflects our values and approach.

My role involves media and PR activities, the production of multimedia and other online content, event organisation, website development, the design and production of publications, policy engagement, and supporting the development of communication strategies for IDS research clsuters and research projects.

The 27-month 'Balancing unpaid care work and paid work: successes, challenges and lessons for women's economic empowerment programmes and policies' project aims to create knowledge about how women's economic empowerment (WEE) policy and programming can generate paid work that empowers women and provides more support for their unpaid care work responsibilities.
