Devanik is a PhD researcher at IDS. His doctoral thesis is an ethnographic study of men’s involvement in pregnancy & childbirth in India, using different qualitative research methods. He is being supervised by Dr. Linda Waldman and Professor Maya Unnithan.

He has 9+ years of full-time experience in development, academic research and writing. He has worked and consulted for different organizations such as Tetra Tech International, Duke NUS, BBC Media Action, UNICEF India, World Bank, SRIJAN India, Institute of Development Studies, Teach For India, and other organizations. He has also worked as a Research Officer at IDS. He is specifically interested in gender, women’s empowerment and rights, maternal and reproductive health, men and masculinities, and Indian political economy.  He has written extensively for major Indian publications on gender, public health, Aadhar, women’s rights, mental health and government schemes.

Devanik also has significant experience in higher education teaching, supervision and marking on undergraduate and masters’ modules at IDS, University of Sussex, University of Brighton and International Study Centre, University of Sussex.

He holds a MA in Gender & Development from IDS and a B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Vellore Institute of Technology, India.
