This paper explores related issues in order to understand and interpret the Chinese discourse surrounding development cooperation. It discusses the differences between Chinese and Western approaches to aid, including whether the two are converging or diverging, and outlines the primary institutions and policies that guide China’s activities in development cooperation.
The paper is part of a collection of papers looking at 'Meeting the Challenges of the 2030 Agenda: Alternative Forms of Development Cooperation and the United Nations' published by UNU-CPR.
