How we are funded
We are an independent charity and receive no core funding, relying on donations and on funding from project grants.
The majority of our income comes from competitively won project grants. A significant proportion of our income is transferred to partners, including research organisations in the global South, to enable collaborative research and action that responds to the needs of those who need it most.
We operate to robust ethical and transparent financial procedures which makes us a highly trusted partner and provider. We are a highly efficient institution with every pound donated directly supporting world-class research, learning and teaching that leads to progressive change.
Transparency and accountability
We are committed to ensuring the highest level of accountability and transparency regarding the funding we seek and receive, as set down in our funding ethics policy. Transparify has recognised this commitment in their global rating of the financial transparency of major think-tanks. In its most recent assessment, Transparify awarded IDS the highest five-star transparency rating.
IDS is registered in England and Wales as a charitable company (no. 00877338) limited by guarantee, and with registered charity number 306371. You can see detailed information about our finances and compliance history on the Charity Commission and Companies House websites.
