This seminar marks this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities (3 December) and focuses on Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction (DIDRR). It aims to raise awareness of this previously neglected topic which is now emerging as an important component of DRR, including the impacts of climate change.
(NB: The seminar/webinar will be supported by online Sign Language Interpreters using British Sign Language.)

The seminar will be chaired by a co-editor of a recent book on Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction.
4 speakers will present different views of this topic from theoretical and practical perspectives.
Roz Price (IDS) will summarise a scoping study on disability inclusion and distributive climate justice. Brigitte Rohwerder (IDS) will talk about her chapter in the DIDRR book, with an overview of natural hazards related disasters in violent conflict and the implications for DIDRR. Mary Wickenden (IDS) will talk about her chapter on Children with disabilities’ experiences in conflicts and disasters.
Lastly, we have a guest from one of Pakistan’s leading Disability Organisations (OPD) STEP, Muhammed Atif. He will give a practical example of cross-organisational collaboration for Disability Inclusive DRR in Pakistan.
