Members Seminars – Paradigm Change or Old Wine in New Bottles? Debating and Reformulating SDGs – An Experiment

In this seminar Professor Haller will draw on his wealth of experience to discuss the Sustainable Development Goals. He will address if the way the SDGs were formulated to represent new thinking in human-environment relations (a paradigm change) or, if they simple represents ‘old wine in new bottles’ – meaning old top-down conservation and development concepts in a new green fancy dress.

Do the SDGs focus on states, companies and large NGOs while ignoring local actors? And what knowledge is lost to this approach to sustainable development?

Speaker – Tobias Haller, professor at the Institute of Social Anthropology at the University of Bern, Switzerland.

Chair – Melissa Leach
