Youth employment in Africa: critical issues for job creation

30 March 2021 14:00–15:30

In May 2020, the ILO estimated that already 1 out of 6 young people had lost her/his job due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with young women more affected than young men. The pandemic has amplified youth vulnerabilities in the world of work.

Watch now

This webinar will focus on critical issues in the debate on Africa’s youth employment. Presenters will talk about the quantity of jobs and challenges of job creation, and in particular on the potential of digital jobs for resolving unemployment. Presentations will also focus on quality of decent jobs, zooming in on workplace sexual harassment.

The webinar is the second in our webinar series on youth in Africa and MENA region, which is linked to the IDS Strategic Research Initiative ‘Ensuring decent work and inclusive politics for youth’ and is also part of IDS’ European Engagement Initiative.

The webinar will be relevant for academics, policy makers and practitioners working on youth employment in Africa, outlining key research questions and findings, and implications for future policy and practice.

This webinar is co-hosted with INCLUDE.
