To contribute as part of the board of trustees to the governance of the Institute in accordance with Charity Commission requirements and the Institute’s principles of effective governance. We are looking for three Trustees who fit under these profiles:

  • Profile 1 (two positions). Individuals with significant international reputations in the field of development studies research, particularly as academics or public intellectuals. One or both should be in the disciplinary field of economics.
  • Profile 2 (one position). An individual who has a proven and exceptional record of leadership in an institution of international development, including for example UN agencies, multilateral banks, ministries, bilateral donors, foundations, or large international NGOs.

Chair of the IDS Board of Trustees, Professor Deepak Nayyar says: ‘IDS aspires to make a positive difference in the world, helping to tackle the many global challenges that affect us all. I joined IDS as Chair of the Board of Trustees in August 2020 in what has been an extraordinary year. I have been impressed by the calibre of the institute’s research, the quality of its partnerships, its robust financial health in challenging times, and the collective commitment to sustainable development.

Our Board of Trustees is a talented group of individuals with a diverse and rich experience, which works in a constructive, mutually supportive and collaborative way to discharge its duties in governance of the institution. It is also engaged in setting policy, charting direction, evaluating performance, and evolving a longer-term strategic perspective. I welcome your interest in IDS’.
