IDS is partnering with the Victoria Forum, a partnership between the University of Victoria, Canada, and the Senate of Canada, to co-host three events aimed at exploring social divides to find transformative solutions to contemporary and urgent environmental, economic, and social challenges.
The Victoria Forum has been created to convene evidence-based conversations and stimulate creative thinking that in turn will lead to innovative and actionable ideas. It aims to create inclusive spaces to bring together regional, national and international change-makers with different perspectives and expertise who are committed to making the world a better place for all.
Virtual Victoria Forum
In response to the challenges of Covid-19, a Virtual Victoria Forum is taking place from 12 to 13 and 19 November 2020, under the theme of ‘Bridging divides in the wake of a global pandemic.’ The next Victoria Forum in-person event will take place in November 2021, under the theme of ‘Bridging Divides: Turf, Truth and Trust’.
As part of the Victoria Forum, IDS will co-lead with University of Victoria, Canada in its explorations of ‘social divides’ and will co-host three events co-convened by Peter Taylor (Director of Research, IDS) and Crystal Tremblay (University of Victoria):
- ‘Navigating an uncertain future for youth as workers of work and citizens’
- ‘Constructing a different and inclusive development paradigm in response to Covid-19: the search for transformative solutions’ with IDS Fellows Sohela Nasneen and Rachel Sabates-Wheeler
- ‘Decolonizing knowledge for transformation’.
These sessions will explore challenges and opportunities associated with these issues, and importantly will also seek to identify potential solutions and transformations, as well as potential actions that could help to catalyse progress.
