IDS alum appointed CEO of Rwanda’s Green Fund

Published on 1 September 2020

IDS alum, Teddy Mpinganzima Mugabo, has been appointed CEO of Rwanda’s Green Fund.

The Rwanda Green Fund (FONERWA) is a ground-breaking environment and climate change investment fund that provides targeted financial and technical support to contribute to Rwanda’s vision of becoming a low-carbon and climate resilient economy.

Teddy completed her Master’s in Climate Change and Development at Sussex in 2016, taught jointly by faculty from the University of Sussex School of Global Studies, the Science Policy Research Unit and the Institute of Development Studies.

Prior to her appointment Teddy worked at FONERWA as the Head of Business Development, coordinating efforts to mobilise resources towards Rwanda’s green ambitions.

Teddy said:

“I’m incredibly excited to be taking up the role of CEO of the Rwanda Green Fund. Rwanda has an ambitious climate action plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 38 per cent compared to business as usual by 2030. The fund will play a critical role in achieving this goal and building the country’s resilience to a warming planet. I’m proud of the success the fund has had to date and looking forward to working with our partners to fast-track green growth in Rwanda.”

IDS Research Fellow Lars Otto Naess said:

“It was a great pleasure having Teddy on our MSc course. Upholding climate and environmental justice is a vital part of our work at IDS and it is heart-warming to see our students go on to make a real difference in the world, progressing pathways to sustainability and fostering transformative change. We wish Teddy every success in her new role.”
