In partnership with the University of Sussex, IDS is ranked first in the world for Development Studies in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.

Studying at IDS is a unique experience. Unlike in many academic settings, our course convenors and instructors are all active researchers and aim to enhance the learning experience by bringing their applied knowledge and experiences of working in development, or ‘the field’, into the classroom.

Our degrees seek to foster mutual learning and critical thinking, and inspire innovative approaches to complex development challenges. Our partner, the University of Sussex, is the awarding body for IDS degrees.

Some of our graduates have said the following:

“IDS is the most supportive and inclusive community I’ve ever had the opportunity of being a part of. I had an excellent experience with my professors, my colleagues and the heroes in the teaching office.” IDS Alum, MA Development Studies.

“Studying at IDS allowed me to define my interests; gain strong research and writing skills; develop an analytical mindset suited for strategic campaigning and become part of an international community of change-makers who I have no doubt will contribute to positive change across the world.” IDS Alum, MA Food and Development.
