This year’s Development Studies Association (DSA) Conference takes place on 6-8 July 2022. Researchers from the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) will be participating in the conference, highlighting research on gender, youth, livelihoods, and citizenship.
The Conference provides an important space for researchers and practitioners from development studies community to share work, discuss ideas and connect with others.
Together we seek to transform the knowledge needed for more equitable and sustainable societies.
Spotlight on urban futures
The theme of the Conference this year is ‘Just sustainable futures in an urbanising and mobile world’.
Today, 55% of the world’s population lives in urban areas. As world populations increasingly migrate from rural to urban centres, this figure is expected to increase to 68% by 2050.
Cities have a distinctive role in development processes: they are focal points for economic growth, jobs and innovation but also for poverty, inequality, vulnerability and conflict.
A focus on urban areas is crucial for sustainable and inclusive development – it is a theme that crosscuts many of our research and learning activities at IDS.
