Singer, Seers, Jolly Lecture Series: Future Leadership in Global Development

Published on 2 November 2022

We’re excited to announce that IDS is hosting a lecture exploring leadership in global development through stories and experiences shared by guest speaker, IDS alumni Pauline Koelbl, who has over 20 years’ experience in international affairs and venture philanthropy.

The lecture will take inspiration from the contributions of three leaders in international development and who helped shape IDS’ history, Hans Singer, Dudley Seers and Richard Jolly. With their leadership, thousands of students at IDS have learnt vital skills, going on to make a difference to development challenges around the world.

IDS knows that new generations of informed and knowledgeable leaders and champions are needed to respond to the global challenges. This lecture, chaired by our Director of Teaching and Learning, Dr Linda Waldman, will see Pauline share her insights on leadership in global development and encourage discussion on addressing pertinent issues for future leaders. Drawing on her extensive experience, Pauline will talk about the skills needed for leadership in global development and the role of organisations such as IDS in developing these skills.

IDS is proud of the work that our former students do. Pauline is one of our 4,000+ alumni who have graduated from IDS in the last 50 years helping transform the knowledge, action and leadership needed for more equitable and sustainable futures.

As well as inspiring debate around leadership and highlighting the role IDS plays in creating future leaders, the event on 23 November is to launch our Scholarship Campaign which aims to support 10 talented individuals who cannot afford to study at IDS.
