Beyond epidemiological certainties: building pandemic responses from below

How to respond to and prepare for pandemics is a top policy priority, but there are many uncertainties.

In the fifth chapter of the bookNavigating Uncertainty: Radical Rethinking for a Turbulent World, I focus on the lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic. The chapter moves between different sites – the modelling community in key medical and public health schools in the UK and two places where the pandemic was being confronted – the UK Midlands and southern Zimbabwe.
