What course did you study and why did you decide to study at IDS?

My name is Pamela Hajal. I’m from Beirut, Lebanon. I did my Master’s in Development Studies, and I graduated in 2020. I decided to study at IDS because of three main factors. The first is that IDS is ranked number one in the world for Development Studies, and I want to benefit from the brand value. Second, the course itself was very appealing to me, because I felt that it will answer a lot of questions I have in development. And third, because it’s located in Brighton, a lovely student city by the beach.

What was your favourite thing about IDS?

My favourite thing about IDS is that I met people from all around the world in one classroom, and I benefited from their experiences in their home countries. And my favourite thing about the course is that it helped me think critically from different angles and different perspectives about development issues.

Why did you choose this course?

I always wanted to do the MA in Development Studies, to widen my horizons and to expand my career options. I discovered during my studies at IDS that I’m very passionate about issues related to governance and popular politics. And this is the field I’m currently working in.

What is your biggest accomplishment since graduation?

The biggest accomplishment after graduation was that I became an IDS research staff member. I always admired the Institute for its pioneering work, and I’m very glad to be contributing to it now.

If you’re looking to study in an academic environment that brings the best in you, then definitely IDS is the place for you.
