Resisting democratic decline

Understanding democracy is central to development studies.

In this series, students enrolled on the IDS Masters course Governance, Development and Public Policy provide insights into the ways in which citizens and progressive politicians are resisting the decline in democracy globally. They have based their contributions on their dissertation or term paper findings on themes relating to democracy.

Understanding the role of citizen action in how and why governments become more autocratic or democratic will help defend against rising autocracy, and against the erosion of rights, freedoms and social justice.
