Camille Maubert

Research Officer

Camille Maubert is a Research Officer on the interdisciplinary project New Community-Informed Approaches to Humanitarian Protection and Restraint in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). This research aims to interrogate the factors and mechanisms that promote restraint and protection in violent environments and how these are communicated as part of a broader social knowledges of conflict dynamics. Camille is simultaneously completing a PhD in International Development at the University of Edinburgh’s Centre of African Studies, looking at sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in the Eastern DRC through the lens of masculinity, morality and the social order.

Prior to joining the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), Camille worked as a practitioner in various aspects of development such as knowledge production, policy, learning and project management in Africa, Europe, Colombia and India. She has developed a particular expertise on women and violence including protection of vulnerable populations on the move, human trafficking, forced labour and sexual exploitation.

Her research interests are men and masculinity studies, gender, post-colonialism, protection and social transformation.
