Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Specialist

Fazal is working as MEL Specialist in Knowledge, Impact and Policy (KIP) team. He provides monitoring, evaluation and learning support to different research projects/programmes carried out by IDS in collaboration with partners in different countries. Currently, programmes included in his portfolio are  CLEAR programme in Bangladesh; BASIC programme in Lebanon, Yemen, Nigeria and Niger ; and SSHAP. His support is focusing on the programmes’ theory of change, MEL frameworks, tools development, supporting in evidence collection and impact stories.

Before joining IDS, Fazal worked in different capacities in different development and humanitarian organizations in different countries. He has versatile experience that includes management and monitoring of projects in education, livelihoods, shelter and water and sanitation. He has also worked with different partners in Pakistan, Nepal and in the UK to build their capacity on systems strengthening and programme delivery. Fazal worked with the British Red Cross in the capacity of Evaluation Officer and Programme Development Officer and supported teams on data quality and M&E systems. He previously, worked with CAFOD as Emergency Programme Officer for Nepal and supported partners in implementing emergency and recovery projects during the earthquake of 2015 in Nepal. Between 2007 and 2012, Fazal worked with CRS in Pakistan as programme manager and implemented different projects in the earthquake and floods disasters and militancy crisis.

Fazal has done his masters’ degrees in Sociology, Rural Development as well as in Education. He has also completed level 2 certificate of PMD Pro and a certification in monitoring and evaluation.
