Heather is a Doctoral Researcher at the Institute of Development Studies, with 30+ years of interdisciplinary experience across research, policy influence, and professional practice. She has worked across the public, private, voluntary, non-profit, and research sectors, including research with Dr Linda Waldman (IDS), funded by a large UK trade union, which led to a debate in the UK Parliament and the tabling of an Early Day Motion.

Heather has co-authored peer-reviewed publications on environmental health and social housing, as well as on homeless women’s use and non-use of mobile phones. She is the sole author of a forthcoming book chapter, in collaboration with international homelessness scholars, on technologies of marginalisation and control within the UK criminal justice system.

Using feminist and trauma-informed research practices, Heather’s PhD focuses on addressing how women experiencing forms of deep social exclusion in the UK use their embodied agency, visibility, and invisibility as strategies to survive multiple exclusion homelessness.
