Response to One Nation report on Global Britain and Development

Published on 12 November 2020

Commenting on the One Nation Caucus “Global Britain and Development” report on priorities for the UK’s foreign and development policies, Prof Melissa Leach, Director, Institute of Development Studies said:

‘Since the merger of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office with the Department for International Development, there has been intense debate on the implications for the future of the UK in global policy. As a leading research institute for international development, we welcome many of the report’s recommendations, specifically the need for a Cabinet level Minister for International Development and a dedicated ODA parliamentary select committee, to ensure the important role of scrutiny of ODA spending across all government departments.

“Overall we believe that UK Aid must remain evidence-based and focused on the poorest, working with international partners and multi-laterals to tackle the most pressing global challenges, such as climate change and pandemics.”
