Programme of Implementation Research to Inform the Effective and Sustainable Scaling-Up of Integrated Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) Control Initiatives

Formed in 2014, the COUNTDOWN consortium research programme is funded by The Research and Evidence Division of The Department for International Development (DFID).

COUNTDOWN brings together an innovative multidisciplanry partnership from from the UK (LSTM, Pamjoa Communications, USA (FHI 360) and sub-Saharan Africa (Ministries of Health and research partners in Cameroon, Ghana and Liberia and Nigeria). It is comprised of Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) researchers, key NTD policy makers and practioners, and specialists in implementation research (IR) and research uptake. COUNTDOWN’s aim is to contribute to reducing the morbidity, mortality, and poverty associated with NTDs by increasing knowledge and evidence for cost-effective scale-up and sustainable control and elimination of NTDs as a public health problem in line with the WHO 2020 NTD Roadmap.
