Improving Manufacturing Performance in South Africa: The Report of the Industrial Strategy Project

Published on 1 January 1995

This book summarizes the findings of the Industrial Strategy Project, a major research project undertaken to investigate and analyse the reasons for South Africa’s poor manufacturing performance over the past two decades. It provides a broad strategy to improve this performance. The authors examine a number of key areas and outline a set of concrete policies to address the problems. They conclude that industrial policy, rather than being a fixed blueprint from government, should enjoy the active involvement of all stakeholders in its formulation and implementation.
