Innovation and Competitiveness in Mining Value Chains: The Case of Argentina

Published on 1 October 2021

Argentina has outstanding mineral potential, with substantial amounts of unexplored and unex – ploited geological resources. Despite this potential, the nonenergy mining sector is still small-scale, representing 0.5 percent of the country’s GDP and 3.0 percent of total exports, and is concentrated mainly in a few regions of the country.

This document investigates the metal mining value chain in Argentina, in particular the opportunities and challenges that domestic companies find to participate in it. It provides policy recommendations that can help improve the chances of these firms entering and then expanding, growing, and diversifying their clients and markets.
