The Gender and Human Security Debate

Published on 1 March 2009

Feminists have welcomed the human security concept for the challenge it poses to national and state security but have faulted it for not adequately addressing women’s issues. This article looks at the debate between feminists and human security theorists on the issue of gender, what impact these two discourses have on current thinking, and examines if these contradictions can be reconciled when enacting policy decisions.
