Megan Devonald is a Doctoral Researcher at the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex where she is undertaking a PhD by published works which she started in September 2023.
She holds a MSc in Global Health at Maastricht University. For the last 6 years she has been working on the Gender and Adolescence: Global Evidence programme, a 10-year mixed methods longitudinal research and evaluation study that follows the lives of adolescents in six low- and middle-income countries. Her research uses the capability approach to explore how multiple forms of economic, health and environmental crises impact adolescents’ trajectories to adulthood. Focusing on adolescents living in Ethiopia and Lebanon she is particularly interested in how the increased challenges brought about by crises can disrupt young people’s aspirations, their education to work transitions, risks of early marriage, and their mental health. She is supervised by Rachel Sabates-Wheeler and Marjoke Oosterom.
