Amy started her PhD at IDS in September 2018. In her research she is examining how women with disabilities understand and experience violence in Lima, Peru. Within this project Amy will be employing participatory, ethnographic and qualitative methods to better understand how women perceive their intersecting identities shape their lived experience.

Originally trained as a physiotherapist, Amy spent 4 years working as a clinician before pursuing a masters in Global Health and Development. Since this time Amy has worked in the UK, Oman and Peru with Tulane University’s Health Office for Latin America, UNICEF, Imperial College London, the University of Nizwa and various INGOs. She has previously worked on a number of projects including anthropogenic change around the inter-oceanic highway, clean cooking technology, perceptions of zika virus, people with disabilities’ access to healthcare, transmission patterns of dengue fever and female sex work.
