As a PhD student at the Institute of Development Studies, Aysha’s research focuses on the intersection of artisanal and small-scale mining, industrial mining, and global supply chains for critical minerals in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, particularly in the context of the green transition.

Aysha Valery is a dedicated statistical analyst with over two years of experience in conducting humanitarian and development assessments in challenging contexts across West and Central Africa. As a Senior Assessment Officer with REACH, she has led large-scale evaluations of multisectoral humanitarian needs, including food security, health, and education. Aysha has extensive experience in managing diverse teams and complex programmes; collaborating with UN agencies, NGOs, and governmental bodies; and presenting critical findings to inform humanitarian response strategies. She holds a Master of Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School and is a member of the New York State Bar, specialising in international law and policy analysis. Aysha’s background also includes qualitative and quantitative research and consulting for a multilateral development agency.
