The World Food Programme (WFP) and the Centre for Social Protection (CSP) at the UK Institute of Development Studies (IDS) at the University of Sussex are conducting a scoping study of social protection programmes in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

This scoping exercise is expected to contribute to the development of WFP’s regional social protection strategy. This report focuses on Iran’s social protection programs and safety nets and presents an overview of the social insurance programs in Iran that are the major source of social safety nets for its people.
