Beyond Urban Bias

Published on 1 January 1993

The influential idea of ‘urban bias’ is associated especially with the work of Michael Lipton and Robert Bates and has contributed greatly to the understanding of the politicial economy of developing countries. This book deals with six major exceptions: cases where urban bias has been weak or absent. Recent research suggests that considerable revision of the theory of urban bias is needed: such research is extended and summarized in this work.
