The ESRC STEPS Centre is inviting applications to participate in its 2017 Summer School, which will take place on 15-26 May.

Summer School learning session

Applications are invited from highly-motivated doctoral and postdoctoral researchers or those with equivalent experience, working in the fields of development studies, science and technology studies, innovation and policy studies, and across agricultural, health, water or energy issues.

Participants explore the theme of pathways to sustainability through a mixture of workshops, lectures, outdoor events and focused interaction with STEPS Centre members.

The Summer School takes place at IDS on the Sussex University campus, near Brighton, UK. The deadline for applications is 17.00 GMT on 29 January 2017. There is a fee to attend, but scholarships are available.

For the online application form, programme information and materials from previous events, visit the STEPS Centre website.

Fees and scholarships

The fee for the STEPS Summer School 2017 is £750, payable one month before the start of the Summer School. A number of scholarships are available to cover some of the costs, which may include the fee, travel and/or accommodation.

Scholarship requests will be assessed on the strength of an application, with priority given to candidates from low-income settings. Applicants should state their reasons for requesting a scholarship when completing the application form.
