Former IDS International Associate Francisco Sagasti elected as the President of Peru

The Institute of Development Studies extends warm congratulations to Francisco Sagasti who has been elected by the National Congress of Peru as the President of Peru.

In the early 1970s Francisco participated in a joint IDS-SPRU Study Seminar which resulted in the formation of the Science and Technology Policy Instruments (STPI) Programme. STPI played an influential role in the development of science and innovation policy in Latin America and in a number of Asian countries. It also played an important part in the creation of research networks in Latin America and Asia.

Francisco was a Senior International Associate at IDS in 2000 and a frequent visitor during his collaboration with former Director of IDS, Keith Bezanson. They worked on a series of studies, including the acclaimed book The Future of Development Financing.

The Institute wishes him every success as President at such a pivotal time for Peru.
