Beth Richard is Senior Publishing Editor in the Knowledge, Impact and Policy Cluster at IDS. She produces IDS’ gold open access journal, the IDS Bulletin; series publications such as Research Reports, Working Papers and Policy Briefings; eBooks; and other more bespoke publications.
Beth specialises in academic journal and book/report editorial project management, copy-editing, design, proofreading, and digital and accessible publishing. Her other interests include developing production workflows; advising on open access, licensing and copyright; and publication translations.
Leading on developing IDS’ accessible publishing strategy, Beth Chairs the IDS Accessible Communications Group. She is a member of the UK Publishers Association’s Publishing Accessibility Action Group (PAAG), and within IDS, she is a member of the Strategic Leadership Group – Equalities, Diversity, and Inclusion Sub-Committee; the Equalities Champions Group; the Open Access Working Group; and the IDS Social Committee.
Beth completed a Master’s degree in Publishing Studies through Oxford Brookes University in 2024/25. Her study on the use of alternative (alt) text in academic publications was published in the journal LOGOS: ‘Key Issues Affecting the Inclusion of Alt Text in Scholarly PDF Publications’.
