Project

Increasing access to journals from developing countries

Journal Indexing

The British Library for Development Studies (BLDS) offers a unique and freely available catalogue database which includes records for individual articles from a large selection of economic and social development journals, thus ensuring their visibility online. The majority of the journals covered are from developing countries and are not indexed by any other service.

For more information, please contact: Henry Rowsell

Metadata Exchange Project

In addition to the indexing the BLDS collection of journals, the library has established a metadata exchange with the Open Index Initiative led by the Indira Ghandi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) in Mumbai, India. Each organisation is supplying the other with enhanced catalogue records in order to enrich the information available in each library’s catalogue and profile relatively unknown Indian development journals.

BLDS is seeking partnerships with other Southern based libraries that index journal articles, please contact Ian Budden for more information.
