Project

Social Inequalities and the MDGs

Naila Kabeer, with regional experts, is preparing a report on social inequalities and the MDGs for the MDG Achievement Fund, a flagship initiative set up with a contribution by the Spanish Government to the UN system to speed up MDG achievement while pushing for increased UN system collaboration.

The report is intended to address the relationship between identity-based inequaltiies (primarily race, caste, ethnicity with gender as a cross cutting inequality) and pace of progress on the MDGs. The idea of the report is to push for attention to these issues at the September 2010 MDG Review Summit.

The Fund are particularly keen on “relinking to the key principles of the Millennium Declaration (which seem somewhat eroded) to highlight the parameters that are needed in order to make achievement possible for all, particularly women, indigenous, ethnic and other minority groups (including rights, voice, accountability amongst others).”
